The F type here in the US goes for US $108,000 Todays rate 1.3119 or AU $141,686 Think there may be a lot of tax down under.

Hell yeah there is alot of Tax man. It's crazy!

It's why you also see hardly any on the road over here. I spotted one in Perth the other day and my wife spotted one in Brisbane. Pretty rare though.

some say the F type is 75% Ford parts, and parts sell for 40-50% less than Jag dealer prices, lot of Mustang parts also!

Point of interest the Thunderbird built in 2002 -2004 were Jaguar platforms.

All Jaguars, including the facelift XJSs, up to at least the end of the first XK8 model, had loads of Ford parts, both small bits like electrical/electronic parts and large assemblies such as the steering wheel and stalks. The X type (a good car mind) was Ford Mondeo based. This, allied to Ford production systems and quality controls, is the reason that Jaguar reliability improved so much from 1990.
Not that long ago I was shown round the jaguar manufacturing facilities by one of their engineers. He had worked for Porsche, Fiat, BMW etc etc. He told me that Ford's insistence of getting things dead right (eg engine proving and testing, powertrain reliability, assembly quality systems) far exceeded the standards of any other car manufacturer he had worked for.

My 73 Series 1 XJ6 with Sunroof & Aircon was just over $11000 AUD.(I have the original purchase price somewhere in my stash of papers that came with the car)

A Holden Statesman DeVille V8, with top trim levels & options was $5183 AUD

So the XJ6 was over double the price of the GMH top of the range flagship.

I can beat that

Now IF I convert my XJ-S' £45.000 to DM of the day, that would have been about DM 135.000. That would not related to the 2002 exchange rate conversion of €67.500 (€ 1.00 ~ DM 2.00) but would be ~ €235.000 - yes, I could buy a Lambo/McLaren/Ferrari for that today

I cannot follow your arithmetic and assumptions, could you explain a bit further?

Okay...

So, £45.000 in 1989. At the time, 1 British Pound Sterling was worth as much as ~3 German Marks. So, the car would have cost 45.000 x 3 = 135.000 = DM 135.000. Due to inflation over the last 30 years here in Germany, the result is, that 1989's 135k would not be €70k (as per official 2002 DM to EUR conversion rate - every currency had a different fixed conversion rate back then, of you remember rightly). Instead, in order to be able to buy the same buying power of 1989, you'd need around €230.000. Amd that is aboit the price of a brand new Ferrari.

Just as a comparisson...

Petrol costed (here) in 1989 DM 1.10/liter. Today, the same fuel grade sets you back about EUR 1.35/liter. EUR 1.35 = DM 2.70. Or DM 1.10 = EUR 0.55

So, using fuel (which hasn't really been that excessive in the inflation charts over here) as a base:

135.000 / 1.10 = 122.727 l.

To get the same you need to invest ~333.000 EUR.

Awkward calculations, but I doubt the XJ-S was cheap back then! Cheaper than a Ferrari though!

my XJS 1978 cost slight less than $19,000. USD.

they made them for 21yrs, and the last of them where ($80K.) now same car made with some improvements , BUT $60K difference, something wrong!

why is inflation required?

is something wrong with world central bank system?

money is paper, and some kind of agreement its valuable,,, DUHH!

i never agreed it was valuable!

That is the capitalistic aka American way of finances. In a communistic ideal world, there is no inflation. Inflation is to cause grow. Unlimited growth of the economy is the goal of capitalism but that doesn't work on a planet with limited resources and people.
