Default How to replace rear shock absorber

I have a 1990 XSJ. I would like to replace the rear shock myself and would like to reach out for advice. Do I need a spring compressor or special tool. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This should give you a good idea of what the task entails....and then you can ask more specific questions if needed. It's shown on an XJ6 but in this case the rear suspension is the same as your XJS
