Rule of thumb is tighten until the bushing is squished to the same diameter of the washer. This might be too much for the original foam-type bushings Jaguar used....or if an extra thick rubber bushing is used. At minimum make sure the bushing is squished to some degree....but you don't want to crush it to death!
The end of shock shaft should have two flats. You can use a small wrench or vice grips on the flats while you undo the nut.
Or.....
Go to Sears or a good tool supplier and you can get a socket that fits the end of the shock absorber shaft perfectly
