I met with Tara, his physical therapist and Peter, the guy who custom fits the wheelchairs this morning. They will be making the first measurements with my patient in the chair so we can determine the angle it needs to be mounted and the placement of padding and braces. This is starting to come together nicely!

Ran into my first major snag today. The nurse administrator decided she didn't like the idea. I already got approval from his Dr, his PT, his Nurse Practioner and the VP of the institution and have all the requirements needed including all legal issues.
She didn't even give a reason and didn't even bother informing me.
I'm trying to find out why and see if I can get this hurdle resolved.

Jegs has mega cheap bucket seats. mine were about $200 for a matching set. different width. one for my big *** and one for my GF's little ***. lol

ebay has them super cheap as well. as cheap as $100 for a pair. shipping might kill you though.

Ebay also has really cheap 5 points. which would work well when you dont want the passenger moving around.

I have a seat already, I just needed to put extra padding in and a neck brace. But it's looking more and more like this isn't going to happen. I'm told this nurse administrator is NOT a reasonable person to deal with. We'll see...

Must be a Porsche fan.

Seriously though, do you think there is any way for us to help? May sound a little hokie, but a letter writing campaign from several of us may help?

No problem. Either your friend or a legal guardian can sign a waiver or a letter stating that they support the idea.

She may be the institution's head nurse, but, in the end, she is ONLY a nurse, and they fall a peg or two lower than doctors in the pecking order. I would think that the opinion of his Doctor would trump that of a nurse, especially when backed up by his other primary caregivers, your institution's legal department, and most importantly, the patient's desire to do this.

Let us know how this works out.

He's back and he's much better and looking forward to the ride! That was a close call, which just makes me realize how fragile life is. Live life to its fullest.

Good news Jamey. Does the lad know about this project.

If so, let him know that we are all rooting for him and hope that this goes ahead.

All the best,
Richard

He does know about it, and its one of the few things he has to look forward to. Last night he joked with me and said "Jamey, get the car and get me out of here!" LOL

Things seemed to be going well. Everyone was onboard and his wounds appeared to be getting better.

Then something happened.
They found him this morning without a heartbeat. Started cpr, pushed meds through an IV, got his heart started again and shipped him out to a major hospital.
Last report was there was no brain waves, and his kidneys and liver have shut down. Just keeping him going until his folks get here.
I'm still praying, but from a medical point of view, it's all over.

I'm very, very sorry to hear about that Jamey. Was looking forward to joining you for the ride.
My sympathies as well.

That's terrible Jamey. Things seemed so close after such a long journey. Have you heard anything else about him? It seems such a cruel twist of fate for your patient, but, also for you.

Thanks folks.
He passed away at 5:30 yesterday evening at the age of 22. I'm going to miss him.

So sorry to hear that. I know you must have felt a strong connection to him in order to be willing to go to such lengths just to give him a ride in you car.
