Instrument Panel Interchangeability Facelift models
Learn the hard way that face lift model dash assembles are not totally interchangeable electronically. In physical size they are a drop in, but the electrics are another matter. Plug A contact 8 controls the tachometer. I have found that the 1993 coupe model Tach has a direct connection to contact 8 only, but on another year car contact 8 also goes to a resister on the printed circuit. Bottom line the tach won't work with the resister in the circuit in the '93 car.
There is also a difference in the warning lights. The #1 light on the left is a "transmission warning" and the #2 light is a "numeral one with a cross stripe." Number 3 light is "Sport," and others.
You will notice I did not name the car describe in comparison to the '93 model. That is where I need help. Can anybody help me IDENTIFY the MODEL and YEAR car that fits the above description? The reason I need to know is I plan to sell that dashboard and need to tell future buyers the proper information.

I own a 93 XJS coupe (187577). There were 3 different models of the light symbol strips. One for Vin (-188104){88-93.5}, one for Vin (188105-194774){9.35-94}, and one for Vin (194775-){95-96}. The one you have is for a 96 XJS. The strip should have a slight curve. I have this strip in my parts bin. I learned this the hard way. I was installing LEDs in the instrument binnacle and had purchased the 96 XJS entire instrument panel (not knowing the difference in the light strip).
I had everything put together, LED's placed in correct polarity, new circuit sheet, etc. Went to turn things on, and discovered the turn signal lights were "not" in the right place. Had to purchase another (correct) instrument panel. You can't just buy the symbol strip. Also the circuit sheet has to match the year of the instrument cluster. Again using the Vin number models.

Talk about coincidences! I have a 93 coupe and I made the same mistake doing exactly what you did. the New Dash I have is a DAC 11187 and confirmed it is from a 4 ltr 1995 convertible. I am still up in the air about keeping it and modifying the circuit board and removing the symbol strip and replacing it with the 93 strip. There are differences in that circuit board but I don't know how significant they are. I do know that you can solder to it easily and reroute circuits with wire.
Take a look at my recent posting on dashboard illumination. those bulb work great
Thanks for your input

Your attachment was just perfect. Made tracing simple. Thank you very much
Because of it I was able to trace the circuit on the '95 printed circuit and convert it to my '93. It was quite simple and I just had to change one circuit for the tach. Snapped off the warning light strips and exchanged them from the 93 dash to the 95 dash. That's all it took! I haven't tried the speedometer yet, but I don't think there will be a problem. I think it reads pulses just like the tach.
Talked to the jag dealer's parts guy and he did a search for the printed circuit all over the USA and got zilch! He did his search for both the 93 and the 95; nothing!
With your copy of the printed circuit, it could be traced to a copper coated plastic. Then dipped in acid and the tracing would survive. I did this with a $500 a/c amp on an XJ6 and bought all the electronic parts for $15 at Radio Shack
