Default jag xjs v12

Hi. I have a 1985-86 xjs v12. I have problems starting it. The car is kicking like it wants to stare, but it wont. I took out an injector and it only seems like a little drip of petrol coming out of it, not a nice spray of fuel as it should do to start it up. Any suggestions please? I bought the car like this. Thanks

Was the car sitting unused for a long time? if so, suspect rust/clogging of the fuel system. Remove the fuel filter and empty the contents into a clean container. What you see may dictate your next steps.

Also, is the fuel pump operating? When you turn the key "on" you should hear it operate for 2-3 seconds. It should also operate with the key turned to "start" but you won't be able to hear it over the noise of the starter. Have a helper crank the engine while you put your ear or hand to the fuel pump to hear/feel if it operates. It's behind the spare tire.

The "could be" list for this type of problem is long....but the above are easy stepping-off points.

Cheers
DD

Hi. Thanks for the reply.I have changed the fuel filter and I'v got the fuel pump on all the time, I did have the car running when I first bought the car, but when I tried to rev it, it was popping and banging through the inlet manafold like it was starvation of fuel getting into the injectors. Could it be an e,c,u, problem? as now it won't start. Thanks
