So I was out at my shop over the weekend and starting thinking how much I need a shop truck. I want something that is old and cool looking. Jaguar has never been in the truck business (I'm not considering Land Rover) so there is nothing to be had with Jaguar styling.
It just does not seem right to have a Jaguar garage and old Ford as a shop truck. I need something that looks like a Jag.
So I go to the net and start searching. I found a few Jags that had been modified into Ranchero-like car/trucks. One of the more disturbing versions was this;
I love the XJS but I could not bring myself to build anything like this. Ugh!
Anyway....I'm open to suggestions. What would make a cool shop truck for a garage that specializes in Jaguar's?
On the basis that it needs to be practical as well as eye-catching, I'd go for something based on a Series I-III XJ Saloon or an XJ40 derivative. See here for some ideas:
I've been toying with that idea aswell. I like the look of it with out the second axel.
With the flying buttresses if would make a nice truck (Rancharo styling).
If only I could weld.
Having seen an XJS El Camino/Ranchero in person, and it was really beautifully done, I've always liked idea.
Can I offer perhaps more a practical suggestion?
Just buy a reliable standard trunk, then have a vinyl graphic put over the entire truck that advertises or enhances your business. For instance, a Union Jack over the entire body, or a Leaper across the side of the truck, photo of an E-Type across the side, etc.
I reckon a Mk 10/420G has a good body shape (and size) to become a decent utility.
The big problem with the later sedans is the rear suspension and it's ability to carry a load.
it may be easier to transplant a Jag body onto a commercial chassis in the end if you really needed a decent GVM.
