Default Jaguar Strangeness

Having recently got this car, tonight was the first night I tried the actual stcok cassette player. I put the tape in and waited...the deck went silent and the tape s-l-o-w-l-y lowered into position. Then nothing.

I pushed mulitple buttons and nothing...wouldn't eject either.

Got the butter knife out and tried to gently pry it out...nothing.

Resigning myself to a new deck, I drove off.

Approx 5 minutes later...bingo, tape starts playing no problem! Eject tape, throw it back in....and back to nothing.

1 minure later off it goes again...

I think my new custom plate will read PLTRGIST

Is that not the way they all work, mine did that for years, I just thought it was "normal", really, haha, just kidding, I knew it was the drive belt.

Finally died completely, new CD deck fitted, wow, 21st century sound in the "Beast", awesome. Ripped the old thing apart, why not, and the "rubber band" drive belt was melted to one of the drive spindles, obviously heat related and a bit of old age, maybe. Just for fun, fitted a suitable actual rubber band, worked a treat, did not reuse the unit, would not last, gets too hot in the car, but the actual belt is not available anywhere I looked.

You don't say what was on the cassette, Jaguars can be very picky about things like this. lol

If you do pull the thing to bits you might find some interest here. Stuck Cassette.

Our stock stereo had a problem with the Left channel cutting out.. the left speakers mysteriously would come back when playing either classical or hard rock.. go figure... In determination to keep the car totally stock, we took it apart and found a loose solder connection.. Bingo! hasn't cut out since.. Your problem sounds like a possible dirty switch somewhere..

I still have my stock player with a stuck cassette inside, but it's in a drawer somewhere...
