Default Kickdown micro controller?

I noticed one broken and removed it from the capstan. I can see where the tang sits in the throttle cable. I see a spring but it's blocked by a screw. How is this supposed to work or is it someone's modification to disable it? Also, do both switches do the same thing?

The switch on the cable is the kickdown switch. The switch on the capstan is a fuel enrichment switch.

Not sure about the screw. I think it is supposed to be there. Later, if time permits, I'll go to the garage and look at mine.

The arm of the switch fits in the window of the cable, as you've discovered. As you press the throttle just beyond wide open a little 'bump' on the cable will pass under the switch arm and push against it, thus operating the switch

Cheers

The screw must stay! Swab that bit in penetrating oil, the grip the end that comes from the throttle pedal with a pair of pliers and push it in against the spring, eventually it will move. The mechanism and how it works is described in another recent thread involving Orangeblossom. AS in this link:

Thanks for the leads, glad I didn't take the screw out. Shopping for a new switch now. This will be a secondary project while the car is laid up. I found out a few weeks ago that someone previously had cut nearly all the wires & removed some controls for the heater box assembly. Found a used one on ebay and should be here next week. Not looking forward to that project. Looks like the whole dash will have to come out.

Here's one with three pins but will still easily work.
