Default Lengthy startup

Is it normal for the 5.3L V12 to take about 3 -4 seconds to turn over and start? Mine seem like it takes forever to start and lost sounds like a turbine engines on a plane on start up.

Just curious.

The turbine sound is normal (Thats what you bought a V12 for)

Does it take 3~4 secs to start in any condition ? ie hot or cold ? or only when hot ?

These cars have a few peculiarities that can cause them to have problems hot starting but before we get into that, try a few things..... when you get in to the car, turn the key to ignition on (so the red lights come on on the dash) then turn the key off again, then on again, then off again , then on again and try to start the car. Each time you turn the key on, wait for a few seconds until the fuel pump runs then stops (you should be able to hear it run then stop) Let us know if it starts better once you've done this on/off trick

Seems like it takes a bit longer when the car is cold. Typically when I turn the key half a turn it sounds like the car lets out a sigh after its had 3 cigarettes. I'll try the key trick tomorrow and report back.

Mine does take 3 or 4 seconds when completely cold, but once it's warm it's pretty instant....

I haven't checked, but I believe the v12s have a gear-reduction starter. It sounds simular to what the large cubic inch mopars had back in the 70's. That's the turbine sound you hear is the starter.

Same here...mine takes a few on cold start-up, but quicker when it's warm.

For faster cold starts on the V12 just turn the key on, listen for the 2 second fuel pump prime, and then goose the throttle once....then turn the key to "start".

This actually pulses the injectors giving the combustion chambers a shot of fuel :-)

I know this is contrary to conventional "no feet" starting with fuel injected engines, but there you have it :-)

Cheers

I will give the above a try. Like the first post within this thread, and I'm almost certain, the fuel pump needs replacing. I have to prime mine 3 to 4 times before she fires, and will fire within 2 seconds. This is A Typical fuel pump issue. Whether hot or cold, sitting for an hour assures mine of the prime.
