...but I just don't know how to do it.

See photo.

I have the valve covers off replacing the half-moon seals and doing other leak-reduction work. I literally just brushed my hand against the hose and it popped out. I feel very fortunate this happened with the car sitting in the driveway.

I know I could take the coolant manifold off, thread the hole and put a small fitting on it. But I'd rather not go to that much work unless there is no other way to reliably fix it.

I will be putting the proper washers on the valve covers when it all gets put back together.

Thanks,

John

SIMPLE.

They fall out regularly.

Mix up some Epoxy glue, I use JB WELD.

Remove that tube from said hose, SMEAR it with JB, insert in hole, TAP IT LIGHTLY with a SMALL tack hammer, or the end of a wrench (spanner for us down here).

Walk away, drink whatever you like until that epoxy sets up. The JB takes 24 hours.

Refit the hose. Fill the cooling system and bleed it.

DO NOT use any of that "Fast Dry" stuff, it will fail when it gets HOT, and that pipe gets HOT.

I agree with above, I'd scuff the pipe and inside of whole if possible to help epoxy.

Other option is to use Red Loctite. Red will only break down if heat over 400F is applied.

Thanks to all, but I went with Grant's solution, so Grant thanks very much for that.

I puts me to wonder though...while I'm doing this, are there other such connections that I would be wise to give the same treatment to since the engine is "down" for a while anyway?

Thanks again!

Nope.

That is the only dumb one of that style that is a regular for me.

The 4 "tophat" seals on the water pipes on top of each cylinder head become problematic as age creeps in, and usage drops off. I always replace the pipes, very cheap.

Used daily, no issues.
