Default Lost Key Replacement - Help

After 2 days of ownership, I lost the key to my 88 XJS-C . I contacted two local Dealers in CT & RI, but they could not help. I am also having difficulty with local locksmiths. Hoping someone may have an idea.

lyonsfin,

That's very disappointing that your dealer wouldn't help. They should have just contacted Jaguar Heritage who hold the records on your key numbers. Perhaps just push them again to do that or contact Jaguar Heritage yourself.

Good luck

Paul

I can confirm that Jaguar Heritage can cut keys by the VIN number, upon provision proof of ownership.

i bought my jag in bowling green ky, and it came with one replacement key. (no original key) the dealer had told me they lost the key and had to get one cut by a jag dealer in nashville tn and mailed to them. i wanted to get a spare key to it and found the blanks online but none of my local lock smiths could cut it as its such a oddball key. (well they probably could but didn't want to)

nearest jag dealer from me in north dakota is over 400 miles i guess i still have not gotten a spare key anywhere. but i am 99% sure that they told me it was a jag dealer in Nashville where they got the replacement key. so might try a phone book and ask them. i guess i have not tried very hard to get a spare myself yet.

Worst case scenario just buy a new lock assembly from SNG Barratt. You have to slot or drill out the mounting screws but they're just cheap-o brass and easy to drill. The jaguar dealer in Manchester NH cut a key for me once using the code and a book and key snipping tool (the tool notched the blank, not like a key cutter at all) but the key didn't work, and I ended up finding the old one. That dealer has since closed.

Is your key the flat kind, or like a round cylinder? If round, it's called a Tibbe key. Very common in the UK, there are lots of people on Ebay UK who can cut to code and mail you a key.

Since you already have a key, you already know the code! Here is how to read your key: http://www.triple-c.com/How_To_Read_..._Key_Codes.cfm

Wasn't the round Tibbe key used from the '93 facelift onwards. The earlier facelift cars had flat keys for the doors and fuel cap and tibbe for the ignition and trunk.

You can get the Tibbe (Ford) cut here in the USA too.

Would the original posters car have the flat older key type in a 1988 my ?
