I've read about and some peoplr only recommend geniune metalastic bushes...

What is metalastic? Afaik only a rubber that has been cast to a metal bush housing/tube... So what is so special about them?

Cheers

Bonding rubber to metal isn't easy. I've had some replacement rear IRS mounts fail and after pulling out the remains it was easy to see that the rubber was only bonded around the edge, nothing stuck across the face, which is why it failed.

The Metalastic mounts seem to be of a much higher quality than anything else and last much longer. Worth the extra cost in my experience, since changing them usually is a fair bit of labour.

Metalastic is a brand name of the bushings made by Dunlop, not a specific thing. As I mentioned before, generally high quality and long lasting.

Daim
  1. they last indefinitely
  2. they give the authentic Jaguar ride and handling
  3. they do not fall to bits the first time you take her fast through some S bends
  4. All the aftermarket stuff fails all the above
Metalastic is a brand name, and as Jagboi so correctly said, they know what they are doing. All rubber is not created equal - just like tyres. My 30 year old bottom wishbone OEM factory installed bushes were in better shape after 120,000miles than the rubbish I foolishly installed was after 700 km. I have all subframe bushes front and rear, all suspension bushes, all radius arm bushes Metalastic. Makes a huge cumulative difference.

May I ask what ones you used Greg, that fellmapart so quickly? I really don't want to have to gomthrough the hassle of removing the springs (again) and then the fulcrum shaft... Just got over that!
