More spring questions
I need some front springs for my Series III V12 project. I'm posting here because there's a lot more "V12" related activity, and I plan on using XJS springs.
There is no shortage of vendors selling XJS springs but I'm a bit concerned at the way they are listed/cataloged. Most vendors are selling listing the same front spring for Series III XJ6s and all XJSs from 1975 to 1996, regardless of engine or coupe/convertible. To me this suggests that the spring will be a little bit correct for lots of cars but not truly correct for *any* car. Some carry the listing all the way back to Series 1 cars.
Over the years, here and elsewhere, there have been many postings from those having bought aftermarket springs and ended up with significantly incorrect ride height. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Replacing the springs is something I'd rather do just once, if possible.
What springs have you V12 owners been using? Brand, vendor, part number? Results?
Thanks
DD

Doug,
As you probably know, there are lots of different spec springs for V12 XJS over the years from 1975-1996. Any supplier who is claiming that a spring is correct for all XJS from 75-96 clearly doesn't know much.
The spring for late Series III V12s became standardised for all models at JLM1449. That's the same spec as a non-Sportspack late 5.3 XJS.
Hope that helps a bit

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I was aware of the JLM1449. Jaguar obviously did their own 'reconciling' of offerings. Between the various V12 applications there probably isn't much difference....with the likely exception of a sportspack spring.
At this point I'd be happy with any spring that is *known to be correct* for a V12 application, XJS or Series III. I'd rather have a correct used spring, I think, than an incorrect new spring.
Maybe some vendors would like to chime in.
Meanwhile I'll keep looking around
Cheers and thanks

Doug,
I spoke to the tech guy at King Springs a couple of years ago, he told me the spring rates for their stock and heavy duty. I do remember researching the TWR spring rates and the HD King were very close.

The guy I got my 3.31 LSD from is parting several XJSs, including an '89 V12 coupe. I am buying front springs from him. At least I know that they've actually come off a V12 car.
Cheers and thanks

My 96 4.0 had shocks and springs installed a year before I purchased the car. The spring was a universal XJS spring. I'll look for the mfg info later.
My car sits up like a 60's gasser. 3" over the tire. That will change
