Default Is my car a XJS Cannonball ?

I have had my car for a while now and not managed to find out its history. So far I have found that its original owner worked for a company that was based in Australia. They brought the car with them to England in 1990 where unfortunately it was registered as a new car. I have tried Jaguar heritage but they told me it was the wrong engine size but I do not think it has its original engine in it.
Pls look at my photos to see pics of the car and the plaque that is on the dash board saying Designed and tuned by Jaguar for the Cannonball Run.

Here are the cars details,

Make and Model :- Jaguar XJ-S "3.6 litre"
Body style :- Coupe right hand drive
DOB :- 25 October 1990 (not sure if correct)
Chassis no :- SAJ-JNAEC3CA 177421
Engine no :- 9DPAMA 194409
Body No :- 5X 009651
Gear Box :- 1304459
Transmission :- Automatic

Any help on the cars history would be greatly appreciated.

I was of the understanding that the Australian version of that event was in 1979 (I stand corrected on that comment if I am wrong), and the Jaguars were PreHE V12.

The cars I remember had blacked out paint on the bootlid where the number plate sat (factroy was body colour), and a small plaque on the glovebox wood trim with a CannonBall Number engraved (memory).

Mechanically they were stock, again from memory.

The "Cannonball Run" was run 5 times in the 70's, I hardly think a 1990 XJS could have entered one. Maybe a Delorean😉

That Vin number is consistent with being a 1990/91 car and the engine number ties in with that also. it seems very unlikely that anybody would take delivery of a brand new XJS in Australia and almost immediately move to the UK taking it with them. Sort of like moving to the arctic and packing the ice cubes.
If it was an Australian delivered car it will have an Australian standards compliance plate in the engine bay.

GuernseyJag,

I'm not sure why Jaguar Heritage told you it was the wrong engine size. That VIN and engine number ties up entirely as a matched VIN and engine for a RHD 3.6 XJS of the right era. In fact, if I'd seen that VIN, I'd have said it was UK car. If you get a Heritage Certificate from Jaguar, I'm sure it will verify the build details, including identifying who was the original supplying dealer.

Good luck

Paul

Cannonball XJS's were just an appearance package by a local dealer. Blacked out windscreen trim was the highlight.
And early XJS's had blacked out number plate panels, it was not a Cannonball thing.

You did indeed. I suspect a lot of posts within a thread go unread, not just here either.

I loaded it a few years ago (4th May 2012 to be exact!) when you were travelling to the mainland and remembered it.

I have owned this car for many years now.
