Default Need Dana service manual info.

I discovered my '88 XJS 5.3L coup (92K miles) has the Dana differential (final drive) in it. My supposedly complete set of Jaguar service manuals (Vols. 1 thru 4) only address the Salisbury differential and has nothing about the Dana. I'm going to replace the output bearings in this diff but would like to get the detailed service manual for it before-hand.

1. Did jaguar ever produce a supplement manual for the Dana?
2. If not, where does one go for this kind of detailed service info?
Any help here would be very appreciated. .......thanks, Mike.

I believe that nearly all 4WD Jeeps in the 1980s and 1990s had Dana diffs, and they were pretty much identical to the one in the XJS; so a place that deals with Jeeps would certainly know what to do.

Greg, I'm really looking for the info that is specifically Jag differences pertaining to the Dana. I've worked on my old Jeep Dana 30 front axle and the rear Dana 44. What I need to know is what Jag did that was different. Specifically, I know that the axle is (unnlike Jeep) a half-shaft on each side. That means the there is an output bearing on each side with its own seal system. I'm not sure about the differences in the LSD from Jeep to Jag but I do know the original LSD in Jeep was tough, and not thought of as weak like the Jag people believe. Surely there is some specific info out there that Jag had so they could have their service people work on them. Any help would be appreciated. .........Mike.

I could be wrong but as far as specs and tolerances and rebuild procedures are concerned if you've serviced a jeep Dana 44 differential you shouldn't have any problems going thru the jag pumpkin. they both are 19 spline on axles and basically same procedure when rebuilding. My 88 cabriolet has the Dana rear and squalls going down the road so thats on my list. I have an extra though so going thru the cage completely and then just swapping them out

I just bought another Dana final drive with 72K miles on it. When it arrives I'll go through the whole unit with new bearings, seals, and clutches. That way I'll make it a unit for unit change-out for minimal driving down time. Trying to find the correct parts for a Jag-*******ized Dana 44, some parts of which Jaguar parts places may have but mostly don't have (so far) and then figuring out what the Jag spec may or may not have used in the generic Dana unit makes it rather confusing as to what to order. Once I get in to it I'll know more. Once it's together I'll unload the info here with Jaguar and generic part numbers.
