Default Need overheating advice

Ok so I have an 88 jaguar 5.3L, i bought it and found it overheating but when I drove it home from buying it I noticed it wasn't overheating at highway speeds. I have then replaced the mechanical fan with an electric, new thermostats and hoses and got my radiator cleaned and practically brand new.

It is still overheating, the needle just climbs to the top after a little bit, the very top so I am very confused as to what it might be at this point.

Curtiss,

First of all, whatever you do, do not start the car and let it overheat! If you overheat the Jaguar V12 engine, you WILL warp the heads and end up with a enormous bill!

You must find out if it is overheating or just indicating if it is overheating. It might just (if you're very lucky) be a dodgy temp sensor or faulty gauge. It could be an air-blocked system. Did you absolutely bleed it fully according to the official procedure when you changed the 'stats and other bits? Have you installed genuine 'stats with jiggle pins correctly aligned?

I would start by fully re-bleeding the system the correct way. Then use an infra-red thermometer to accurately check the temp at the 'stat housings and sensor position.

Good luck

Paul
