Default New on here and shopping for a XJS

Hi folks,
I am new here. I am interested in finding a XJS coupe in-line six and 5 speed Getrag in good mechanical and body order. Willing to pay the correct price for the right car. I own several classics and the XJS attracts my attention due to its low profile design, but it has to be an in-line six. I feel the six will allow me to repair and TShoot issues more easily than the V12, due to the simplicity and extra room. I don't want the V12 XJS for the extra 30 or 35 horses, I have other toys for that, but I enjoy being able to "see" the six block and would like to work on the car when necessary. (I have a 4 post lift)
Also, other forums I belong to typically contain a section related to "what to look for when shopping for your XXXXXX car". I did not see one on the XJS in this forum. am I looking at the right section? am I missing where is it located? I want to thank you in advance for advice and leads. All the best.

Go to this page there is a buyers guide link.

Factory manual cars are pretty rare at least in our part of the world. If you want something that will become collectable the last of the XJR-S 93/94 model or very early V12 cars 76 model.

Even though the 6 is slightly down on power it's not really any slower than the V12.

Local Craigslist had one 6 mos ago for $2400. It was rough! Body and interior needed serious help. I couldn't convince myself to do it.

Hi Aquasition

You are not the only one who thought that the XJS V12 was complicated to work on, because when I opened the Bonnet/Hood of the first V12 I bought, all I wanted to do was to close it again!

By any means I am not a Mechanic but once you overcome your fear of all those wires and gizmos underneath the Bonnet/Hood, apart from something major like getting a dropped valve.

The V12 is a deceptively very easy engine to work on.

So something to consider if you can't find the Straight Six that you are looking for.

OB is far more advanced than I am, and I'll second his comments.

Really not bad once you remove the throttle pedestal, coils, distributor, and AC compressor. Sounds like a lot but easy peasy once you've done it. And I only did it out of financial necessity or expedience.
