Default New owner with an electrical question

Hi, I bought an xjs yesterday, it’s a 1985 3.6 xjsc

i drove it home today and everything was great, apart from the radio didn’t work. So I went into the fuse box under the steering wheel (rhd) and everything looked fine so I thought I’ll try chase it down another day.

I went to drive the car this evening and now nothing from the fuse box has power. The car still runs and drives but no wipers, no cigarette lighter, no climate control etc, nothing that goes through that fuse box is working.

So my question is, is there a main fuse back down the line that would cut power to the whole fuse box under the steering wheel? A wiring diagram would be great haha

thanks a lot,

mark

Default Wiring Diagram

Hi Mark,
Not sure about the fault but if you follow the thread I have found these are probably the most relevent for your model. Much better than the one that comes in the Jaguar manual and they are easy to read as they are in colour. Just scroll down the page until you get to them

Hope this helps and good luck.

I'd begin with a couple basics: cleaning/tightening of:
-the cables at the two "+" voltage junction posts on the firewall
-the battery cables
-earth cables

Next I'd check the "Ignition Load Relay" which powers-up several circuits, upstream of the fuse box. It'll have white/pink, black, and brown wires and is behind the dash, probably on the LH component panel.

For the heck of it try gently jiggling the wires at the back of the ignition switch to see if anything comes back to life

Cheers
DD
