Default new owner looking for best parts sources

Hi,

Was hoping to get some feedback from people as to what is your "go to" place for parts for our cars. I am going to be looking for new and some used interior trim pieces in the trunk.

Thanks.

RockAuto.com is a good source for new replacement parts, but you have to be careful with their shipping policies, they like to double and triple shipping costs if you order multiple items.

Also check the forum's for sale listings. There is a RockAuto coupon code in Vendors, and Private sales parting out some cars. That's where you may find your trunk liners. Have fun!

Lots of good suppliers out there. Most offer both new and used items. Jagbits and Motorcars LTD as already mentioned, Coventry West, Paul's Jaguar, Welsh Jaguar.

For soft trim/upholstery type stuff I think Paul's would be one of the better choices, personally.

Cheers

I've used most of the vendors that others have already listed, plus SNG Barratt is worth adding to your list.

I'm an Amazon junkie and they have a surprisingly good selection of parts for the XJS. Generally the "cheapo" manufacturers but almost everything, includung "OEM" comes from China any more. With Prime 2 day shipping its a really easy option.

I should get them to throw me some cash for all my plugs... :-P

Default Awesome, thanks

Thanks for the lists. My car is home and in the garage. Wifey is impressed even though it isn't running, and that's half the battle.

Will start digging in as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Bill.

This discussion has been up on the board several times now and I go back to the same thing...there isn't a ton of people manufacturing parts for these cars and most vendors carry the same parts + British cars share a lot of the same parts...look at the start solenoid, same one on my 86 XJS AND my 74 TR-6.

First place I look now for new is RockAuto...windscreen $159, seals $35 also gives you multiple options and excellent customer service after their sale

Used....EverydayXJ, David Boger. Great guy, great prices, tests everything before he sends, have bought multiple times from him

Captain Jaguar cat house, has some hard to find/unique stuff, good prices.

Autoparts warehouse, shows multiple choices per part, good prices

Amazon, surprised by some of the parts available and prices

Ebay, remember, most parts can be equal plus shows UK availability, have gotten lots of stuff from ebay UK with no shipping delays and way better prices then the U.S

BPNW, surprisingly has some stuff for our cars at good prices

LBC company, worth a look, bought my speedo transducer for a song from them over others.

JagBits, SNG, CW, XK unlim, Terry's etc...mostly last resort (never used actually) based solely on higher prices then the above when most parts compare favorably side by side (if it says "Jaguar Specialists" your probably paying more then you need to)

Paul's, no way no how, not even making the call anymore, I could go on and on about the "pompousness" on the phone and the "condescending" attitude I've gotten over several items I've called on, don't have time in my life for that nonsense.

Same here. I think currently, I've actually gotten the larger percentage of random parts that I've picked up from Amazon. Window switches, brake master cylinder (Beck Arnley, even), brake reservoir (these were really hard to find!), fuel and air filters, distributor cap, and there's several others "on the list to get."

I've also had decent success with ebay, though that's sometimes a crap shoot because there might or might not be what you need. I've done a couple of orders with Paul's Jag, too, and been pretty happy with them so far.

I like Terry's Jaguar. Their prices are very reasonable/competitive and their service is top notch. They have no minimum order and have fast and affordable shipping options through USPS Priority Mail.

I also like SNG Barratt.

I stay away from XKS Unlimited. I had a bad experience there and don't plan on buying from them again. Plus, they have a minimum order and are usually pricey anyway.

For many of us part of the fun is researching and planning our parts purchases.

Just a few quick remarks.....

The electronic catalogs used by many of the online click-to-buy vendors often have errors. Research first, try to get actual parts numbers, and if something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.

Call me old fashioned but I still believe that developing a *relationship* with an actual *person* who works at an actual brick-and-mortar storefront business has merit and worthwhile benefits. Don't get me wrong. I "click-to-buy" lots of stuff with good results but, still, I find personal relationships valuable. I make an effort to keep them going even if it costs a little more money.

Rock Auto is great and the staff is very responsive if there's a problem. The same can't be said for all on-line sellers. Just be mindful that their (Rock Auto) shipping costs might gobble-up any savings....on parts that the neighborhood parts store will order for you with no shipping charge.

Cheers

Heh heh, the term "OEM" is thrown around so loosely these days it has become virtually meaningless.

Its also worth remembering to try our vendors as above for parts.

There can be good savings to be had, good service and they also help to support the forum, so worth at least checking.

Good luck

Most of what I ever contacted Jaguar Heaven on was over priced...same with JagBits....IMHO. If others have had success and are happy with their pricing that's great. I'll stick with "everydayXJ" for my used stuff, no one can beat David's prices
