Default New starter recommendation

I'm planning to replace the starter on my XJR-S. Unit I removed (a real PITA) had a lucas housing and a Marelli starter motor. Any recommendations?

XKs Unlimited and Faster Jags both offer gear reduction units. Other suggestions?

I had an aftermarket gear reduction starter on mine. Worked great...but required a second removal for shimming....not fun on a V12 Jag, as you know. If I had it to do all over I'd probably rethink the matter.

At some point Jaguar used a gear reduction starter on the V12s. I wonder if that's what you have?

You could always have your starter rebuilt. Most towns have a starter/alternator specialist. Even in po-dunk Longview the local rebuilder never bat an eye when I brought him a Marelli starter off of a '82 Ferrari.

Cheers

I think it is a good idea to have your starter rebuilt.

The p90x workout schedule program isn’t just a pair of 12 work out DVDs. It is an entire 90-Day plan that also features the P90x nutrition plan and offers you a detailed training plan and guidelines. You can expect to see a lower body fat percentage and an overall higher level of fitness, If you follow these instructions and the exercise program properly.

I have replaced the starter on mine twice, it's a bugger of a job - last time I installed a new reduction gear. My 89 still had the Lucas as original, I think Jag installed the reduction gear starters in the cars fitted with the 4L80e. I know this is a requirement of installing the 4L60.

In my case the reduction gear starter was much easier to install as it is quite a bit smaller and lighter.

cheers

I think my highest priority is to have to do the job once and only once while the exhaust and steering rack are out.

Has anyone come up with an idea to make the job easier? Spacers on the upper bolt?

There are a couple of things you can do.

If you are replacing the transmission and need an adaptor plate have the plate made with threads where the starter goes, drill out the threads on the starter and bolt it in from the starter side.

Helicoil the block so the starter screws in from the other side.

Cut a hole in the trans tunnel where the top bolt is and install an inspection plate.

cheers
