Default Non starting 4.0 litre

After purchasing a 93 XJS 4.0 litre at the weekend I did 150 miles trouble free.

Gone out to start this morning and whilst the engine cranks she will not fire. I can smell fuel so don’t think it’s fuel related.

I’ve got a feeling an immobiliser may have cut in but don’t know if it can be overridden?

Any help gratefully appreciated please!

Immobilizer can be accessed from the passenger side door. There'll be a box with a button on the underside. Press the button and its reset! It's right by the hinges, on the body side of the car, not on the door itself.

Vee, thanks for your reply. Are you referring to the fuel inertia switch or is there something else there please?

Hi

K55XJS

That description also sounds like the inertia switch to me

And while of course it could be that, the immobilizer is usually controlled by a button on the Key Fob

When you Crank the Engine. can you see the 'Tacho Needle' Flicker? as although its not a definitive Test, it could point to a failing CPS Crank Position Sensor

Also pull a Spark Plug and see if you get a Spark

I was referring to the inertia switch.

None of our cars ever had a chipped key, so there wouldn't be anything else holding you up from starting the car....not by design anyways.

The UK market security system could be either base security or remote locking but the Parts Catalogue shows a disarm switch for both. If yours has one of these, any chance you may have pressed it accidentally?

I'm not certain, but would guess that the inertia switch or any immobilizer would cut fueling...? Yes, no, maybe so?

Next thing I think would be to test for spark and usual suspects. Be sure about fuel at rail, crank with finger in a plug wire hole, that sort of thing.
