Default oil filters

Jumping in to change the oil in my 1993 4L, for the first time, and went by the local parts house to pick up a filter, and it seems the application is very limited. Are there filters readily available, that are just as good as the factory ones? I can pick up a filter at the dealer but I would rather have a easier and possibly cheaper alternative.

Opinions vary. Mine is that any name brand filter is OK.

Besides the Jaguar EBC9658 I've been happy enough with the Delco PF964, Bosch 72147, Frm PH2995, Baldwin BT292, and Wix/NAPA 62131

Baldwin is my current favorite but not for any verifiable technical reason

Cheers

I can't comment on prices in the U.S., however in Britain, filters from Jaguar are frequently cheaper than the Mickey Mouse brands from motor factors. I have found the same situation with BMW parts. More surprising is that the Jaguar branded filters are actually made in the U.S.A.!

went to the dealership and once I got the attention of the fellows behind the counter told them what I needed. Well they did not have one and would have been $30 which is about 3X what the others would cost. I will be using aftermarket filters. Cant imagine they are 3X better.

Ouch! They are about £7.00 in England (about $8.50),and as I mentioned, they are made in the U.S.

Other option, look at Rockauto.com and order a few. Wix are good.

Amazon sells Mann (whom I believe is the OEM manufacturer) for $12-14, shipped.

Basically I try to stick to Mann, but as a rule, I stay away from Fram. I'll buy Purolator often since they seem readily available around here.
