Oil Pressure Guage
I recently (40 miles ago) had a major overhaul of my 1992 XJS 5.3 Convertible. All of the electroincs behind the dashboard were repalced....among many other things. When they fitted the electronic module for the oil pressure guage they had some issues which seemingly were resolved. Now, after driving only 40 miles the guage "pings" from right to left etc at a rapid speed when the vehile is in idle. However, once i apply throttle the guage immediatly resets to the normal steady reading of around 70psi.
Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Electronic module? Do you mean sending unit?
My off-the-cuff guess is that the sending unit is faulty or incorrect.
What so-called issues did they have with this?
Try to find out what sending unit they used. The original type was discontinued from Jaguar years ago and replaced with a fixed-reading type. However, the original type can be found via the aftermarket with a bit of searching.
If they used a generic replacement (not saying they did, mind you) it might give weired readings.

I will speak with the mechanics tomorrow and advise. When i started the car today there were no issues. The oil pressure read good and consistent. There was no "pinging" from the meter.
Well, the oil pressure meter issue was resolved by getting a new sending unit and associated electronics.......now the rear brake caliper (RH) have failed (gaskets). I was due to have all the calipers and rotors replaced in the fall.....guess the rear ones will get done now.......
