Default Anyone want to trade a 2.88 LSD for my 3.31?

I've got a 3.31 gear set on a freshly rebuilt Salisbury LSD. I'd like to swap out for a 2.88 with the Salisbury LSD. Anyone have a good 2.88 ring/pinion and LSD carrier set you'd be interested in trading?

If I understand correctly, the 2.88 crown/ring gear is a "thick" gear and the carrier is different to accommodate this.

I need the higher gearing for a road race car I'm building. Thanks.

According to this (XJ-S Final Drive) the Salisbury was only in 2.88:1 from 1982-1985. However it also says that the Dana 44 was used from 1985-1987 and the GKN Power Lock was used from 1987 on.

I'm thinking that I really should stick with a Salisbury LSD to make sure everything fits in our diff case just right. Is it hard to find 2.88:1 carriers/pinions from 1982-1984ish?

The GKN powrlok and the Salisbury are the same, I beieve. The DANA is different. The DANA has three bolts holding the output shaft flange to each side of the diff body, the Salisbury has four. The DANA has no drain plug, just a fill plug, and usually the Salisbury has a drain plug.

Great! For some reason I had in my head that yours was an '88.

BTW... the Salisbury diff case has a 5-bolt axle flange.

my 1978 has a drain plug-?
4 bolt axle flange.

Has Jeep 3.73 gears in it, works fine on hiway in 700R4 over drive, gives me a 2.60 final, all is good!

just simple old fashioned hot rod stuff.

The "trade" was smooth... getting it out of the box took about an hour.

The GKN and Dana have essentially the same internals. Jeep Dana 44 parts will fit the GKN diff. There are a few differences but these are all easily overcome.

Jag diff uses 7/16 crownwheel bolts Jeep 3/8
The pinion flange is different.

Thats it.

if you need more lock up in the jag dana, clutch plates from chevy corvette 59-62, have the bellville spring plates that add more grip to the power lock LSD. i have them in mine, and it does work quite well.

but keeps you on your toes in wet weather! but great for drifting sideways(showoff).

all started with DANA USA. darn yanks get around!
