I have had a GOOD day. I started by going by my friends body shop and checking on what I can do about my ratty bumpers... repair - replace? He told me to go to Auto Zone and get a spray can, $150 if he does it. So I ask the clerk what would work best. LOW AND BEHOLD they make a " BUMPER PAINT ". Every XJS I've had ( I've had a few ) drove around with less than perfect bumpers and now I kick myself in the butt for not cleaning them up like I did today. I'd like to post pic's but can't seem to upload. The paint I used is DUPLI- COLOR BUMPER COATING. They look brand new AND it took less than 2 hours to do it. If your unhappy with yours try it. At $7 a can it's the cheapest Nicest thing I've done on this car yet!

 

Are you rubber bumpers dried out and faded? I can attest, I have used this stuff on my girlfriends discovery, where the fender flares faded out, but I live in florida and I have seen multiple junkyard cars with soft black bumpers. I have only seen one car with dried out bumpers. Is your paint all okay?

Maybe its because you are in Las vegas and it is dry there, because my trunk clear coat has gone to crap but my bumper looks just fine.

 

My bumpers were scuffed and faded so I took 320 fine sand paper to them, masked the surrounding body and sprayed them. I didn't know they were so faded until I saw the difference between front and back. VERY faded! The guy at the counter at Auto Zone told me that the paint has a rubber in it and gives the paint flexibility where regular Krylon has a tendency to crack. I keep the car in the garage so I won't know for some time what will happen, with the sun and heat here. Even so for the short time it took to prep and paint them both I don't care if I have to redo it every year... $7 beats new bumpers. LOL And they look brand new now.

I did my bumpers the week I bought it. Big difference for little money and time.

 

Have a small tear in my bumper and discovered that they are RUBBER! I thought they were a plastic material. Tried to melt the torn area with a soldering iron but it wouldn't melt Didn't try epoxy because it won't adhere well to rubber. Still have two options. Fix it with a tire patch (remember the tube Tire?) Or sell it to someone that has a defective left side. A cut down the middle would be hidden by the number plate.
