I found a pretty nice 96 XJS. It's not perfect but pretty close. I think I paid a bit too much for it but I do like it. It has only one bad problem and that is the heater does not blow heat. The heater core hoses are hot on the intake and out take, the fan works but no heat. I think it is going to be expensive to fix. It has 56,500 miles on it and is a California car.
Very Nice XJS, My thought on the heat is, one of the blend doors is not opening ? Now is that controlled by a module? I think it is, if I'm not mistaken. It maybe as simple as a module.
The other thought is. You better get that car Undercoated, Z barted or whatever brand there is now, or it won't last long in Connecticut! I bought a XJS that was in Jersey for several years before he moved to Louisiana, He said it just quit running one day. Yeah it had rusted a hole in the fuel tank big enough to put a football in. Calling it a Rust Bucket is being kind. LOL!
I don't intend to drive it in the winter and it stays inside a garage so hope it will stay rust free. I think you may be correct on the blend doors. I'll have to find out.
The blend doors are driven by a motor at one end, and have a potentiometer at the other ( so the motor knows where the door is) and the motors are usually the culprit. Can you run it through all the positions, defrost, the fan on 2 and start at full cold, then go to full hot, waiting about a minute in each position to let things stabilize. Then report back on what you get in each position from the defrost, floor and dash vents, either hot or cold air.
There are two blend doors and motors, and the results of those tests will narrow it down to which one to look at. The lower motor is relatively easy to change, the upper is a big job - we are talking dash out, airbags out, steering wheel out etc. It's a full days job to do it.
Good looking car! It's a good idea to buy the best car you can. Of course it will cost more, but with a low priced car it can difficult spending the money after purchase needed to bring the car up to snuff. Hopefully the heater fix won't be too involved.
Thanks. I use to have a 95 conv. ( Hence my user name) It was an OK car but it wasn't in quite the condition I wanted and it would have cost too much to upgrade it. I'm pretty happy with this one. It needs a few things and I hope not to major.
