pintle caps. Pintles?

pintle caps. Pintles?
Hi Folks, New on the forums here.
85 XJ-S, V12 H.E., 150KMs
I'm doing an R&R on the injectors/seals/hoses. I accidently dropped one of the injectors, and smashed the pintle cap. I'm not worried as I've found a handful of sources online for pintle caps, but one thing bugs me...
Shouldn't there be a pintle behind the cap? Would I be better off getting an injector instead of just slapping on a pintle cap on the "fallen" one? -- which may or may not be missing a pintle...
