Default popping sound

(1982 xjs) Hi, my 82 xjs has a new noise. And why not, it's new month right?. Somewhere near my rear right (LHD) wheel, I'm hearing a popping sound when I accelerate and decelerate. I was thinking trailing arm bushing if that's what it's called on a Jag. Has anyone else heard this "pop" before?

Could be, might also be one of the axle u-joints or a worn/loose rear cage mount?

Does it do it from rest in drive and reverse?

Cheers,

Allan

Allen, yes, I believe it does. I was thinking u-joint originally. I was aware of axle joints, but that's exactly what it sounds like. I think it might even pop during gear changes also.

Allen, what or should I say where is the "rear cage mount"? What should I be looking for and where exactly should I be looking? Any pics would be real helpful.

The rear cage or crossmember or subframe as it may be called, houses the rear suspension and differential. It is bolted to the body via 4 rubber mounts. These mounts can become worn or loose and might be worth a look.

Here is a diagram from Jag. http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk...-mounting-rear
Cheers,

Allan
