powder coated exhaust manifolds
I had my exhaust manifolds powder coated by jet-hot.
Is it still necessary/recommended to use the manifold heat shields?
Thanks,
John

Yes if you do not use the shields you will have more heat soak into the intake manifold, powder coating will not retain the heat in the exhaust manifold. I am surprised they did not suggest having them ceramic coated instead
Warren, apologizes, I mis-spoke. I did have them ceramic coated....not sure why my fingers disobeyed their commands :-).
They look so nice that it's fun to show them off, but not at the risk of causing any more heat problems.
Thanks,
John

got them on mine 18yrs now, still like new, they do reduce heat soak around 40-50%.
i 1st ported them, gasket matched ,then ceramic coated in and out.
no heat shields, here in Texas summer days get to 100+F sometimes, all is OK.

Just remember the colder the air the more power. If the heat has dropped you are in front anyway. So it's a personal preference. People install phenolic spacers between the IM and heads to reduce heat soak. It really depends on what your goal is. Which ever way they will look good

You would have to make them. Phenolic sheet is available in various thicknesses. If you do make them yourself get a good respirator and vacuum as this stuff is not good for the lungs.
Alternatively you could talk to a company that make them and have them custom made. If you enticed enough folk on this site it might be cheaper. I would be in for a group buy.

Depending on the price, I might be interested in 3 sets.
