Power steering doesn't work...
Hi there!
This is a very weird one for you!
My 1989 V12 received a PAS pump overhaul. Meaning: new seals, new pipes and the rack got some new bellows and endlinks...
I've filled about ~800 ml of ATF (IID) in and the pump pumps... But the steering has no power assist at all...
I've probably done something wrong, but can't tell currently. There is no leak anywhere and as said, the pump pumps. The fanbelt isn't loose... So something seems wrong but I can't see it (as I did it according to handbook).
It's been blead (engine runing, front wheels off the ground, full left to full right and back several times). No difference in "performance".
Only thing I can think of: if I have connected the pipes ON the rack incorrectly, would this be the result? I assume yes, but I don't want to do this without being sure...
Cheers!
Damien
PS: reason I overhauled: the pump and steering rack were leaking nastily... Brittle rubber hoses resulted in the PAS pumping out all fluid within about 2 minutes of the engine running...

Well the pipes are both kind of "same". Same connector etc. I fitted them in the position they looked correct (no tight squeeze, no hanging parts)... So I guess they are fine...
The relief valve was that, where the high pressure pipe is connected to, right?
That would make sense, as, when wheels are off the ground, a suction sound can be heard, when turning the steering wheel.
I've got a spare valve, so I can fit that instead and see if it gets better or not.

I think I've found the culprit...
A little sieve inside the pump. Remove the pressure hose connector and behind that is a valve with a spring. At one end is a sieve. This was clotted up. Cleaned it all and it seems to be working... Seems...

Nope... Not anymore. So it isn't the valve. All I can imagine now, is that I did a mistake assembling the pump, though I followed the entire manual...
Means to remove the pump (again) and take to pieces (again).

Found the problem... The pump has basically "exploded". Inside the casing, the pressure seems to have been too high and the disc, which is clamped in place by a circlip, has pushed so hard, that the pump body blew... Result: pump is beyond repair...
Grrrrr! (Lot's o'nasty curses!!!)
