That's good money for a great car this time of year. Looks like someone got themselves a nice holiday gift.
The XJS seems to be in this hybrid phase where some top quality cars already fetch a premium price while rust-free non-running examples are still dirt cheap. I bought two non-running pre H.E.s this year for $750 each. Twenty years from now they will be worth at least $760. :-)
I just came across a Citroen SM and remembered how 25 years ago one was sitting at a local dealership like a lead brick and nobody wanted the car with its complex technology. Today even a project SM costs good money.
The value of the XJS is only going one way, the only question is how fast and how far. I am counting on that $20 profit. :-)
Keesh, how do you think something like this would fair?
1978 V12 roadster , conversion by Aston Martin Tickford!
23850 original miles , complete restore , 2 hr video to show build!
ron
I think it is awesome, it is one of a kind that has stood the test of time, considering when Ron did the modification (in the 90's) and what condition it was like when the rebuild started.
It's an impressive piece of work, which I very much respect, but just not my cup of tea. I think Keesh is right about the European market for that. It's basically been turned into a muscle car, which is a very American car fashion. I've noticed on this forum there seems to be a sort of divide between how people see the XJS. Is it a refined, sophisticated Grand Tourer, in which case you want it to be as smooth and silent as possible, cocooning you in wood and leather, or is it a powerful, torquey, snarling wild cat just waiting to be unleashed, in which case you add more power, stiffer springs, firm bushes, and maybe drop in a V8? I think the latter view is more popular among the Americans.
Wait, ronbros' car only has 23,000 miles? Use that beast, mate! Take her from sea to shining sea! And back again!
The thing that attracted me to mine so much was the body kit and the Simmons mags - and the lack of wood and leather, making me more the muscle car variety type of person
