Default Raw Oil Smell

Hi everyone, I have gone through my 92 XJS V12 pretty thoroughly and fixed what I believe to be all the oil spots that leak. Half moons, Banjo washers etc. On hard acceleration or high revving spirited driving I am still getting what I believe to be a raw oil smell. I can not find any area’s that are leaking. I am wondering if connected some of the vacuum hoses incorrectly could that cause negative pressure in the cam covers or something???
Any ideas would be appreciated

Look at the breather front left on bank B and associated pipework. You sure it is engine and not power steering or transmission oil odour - unfortunately the internet hasn't perfected scratch n sniff

You may consider also that the smell is just fine and the steering column seal is no good - i.e. theres a leak allowing the smell into the car.

There is supposed to be a slightly negative pressure in the engine itself.

Yep, kind of normal.

Since there has been leaks, the residual oil may still be sitting in places yet to be washed down.

Driving is as designed, things heat up, air rushes to these areas, and oil stink it what you have.

Oil on the exhaust, all the way to teh rear cradle, is a common source of that stink.

The breather capsule/filter in that snout Ben mentioned should be ditched. They are 99% clogged, the engine cannot breath properly, and havoc is soon a friend.
None of mine run that filter, and no ill affects after 30 years.

Some more suggestions in that stickie at the top, just in case you missed it.

YES!
This is how you know you have a Jag!
If you want a car that doesn't smell like oil, get a new Camry.

AND

Dont forget that oil leaks were all designed and implemented by Jaguar as part of the Rust Protection Program.

Worked well until the later cars.
