have 1992 XJS convertible. only part of the time, when lowing and raising the top the rear windows don't work. When lowing the top both windows go down 75% of the time.When raising the top, the driver window closes but the pass window does not close. this happens 50% of the time. Should I change all the relays? With the door locks, when you put the key in the drivers door and lock it, the pass door will not lock. When the pass door is locked and you put the key in the drivers door and unlock the door, the pass door unlocks. When you go to the pass side door and put the key in to lock or unlock, all locks work on both doors. When you try to lock by manual on driver side the pass door lock will not lock. Anyone have any ideas on my problems. Also, is this normal? When you start up in the morning and engine is cold, the engine idles at a certain RPM for a few minutes then the RPM goes up and down for about 2-3 minutes then its goes back to a steady idle. Is this normal for a JAG V12. Thanks Frank.

 

Ah yes...the dreaded rear windows........It seems to be a common problem.
My '92 back right would function as Jag intended most of the time. Mainly not coming up if it looked like rain.
After swopping out relays, cleaning contacts etc. I found out that taking the back trim, all the water curtains off (careful there breaks) and hitting motor with a hammer made it work. After doing that for a while l just unplugged the down relay, then the other side started the same **** so unplugged that one too. Now looks like every Chrysler le baron l see, roof down back windows stuck up. lol


When l get time l will look into putting a window switch directly to both motors. Ideas anyone on circuits for that.....

What do you mean when you say...take off the back trim, all the water curtains off...and be careful, there breaks! What are water curtains and breaks? Thanks, frank

They are the breakable flimsy plastic parts that stop any water and must be removed before you can access the motor.

To get to the motor you must have the windows down, take out the screw that's on the top of the side panel ,lift up and pull forward to pull the plastic plugs along the door jam. Now mine has the rear seat adaption so not sure if the storage box on yours must come out or not.

Sounds like we have the same car. My rear right window works great usually. But today I was putting the top up and the driver side window did its thing. The other one would not I tinkered with it a bit and decided to let it rest. Later I tried again and it worked fine. I assume something contacted later that wasn't at the time it would not work.
