Remote locking problem XJS
Hi
I recently bought a XJS convertible 1990 and the remote locking does not work. I have already spent some time googling this to no avail.
The remote has no indicator light so I don't know if it even works. I have tried replacing the 9v battery but it still won't work.
Where do I start looking to solve this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Weenie
Ps I did also buy the below book but not much technical detail in it but interesting read.

@Weenie
If you have remote locking on a 90 car, it is either the Jaguar security system (which I believe was a dealer fit option) or an aftermarket system. Does the remote have a jaguar on it ? or it's just a little black box ? Do you have an LED and a switch marked "Valet" somewhere on the steering column ? (This suggests it's a Jaguar system....).
There is another post on here from another member who has a working Jaguar security system, but we still don't know exactly how it all works. You may want to try some of the things suggested on this thread..... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...es-work-80377/ at least to see if you have an alarm system. I imagine there is a way to "learn" the remote to the car after the battery change, but I don't know the procedure.

Hi Sarc
The fob is half the size of a match box with a single button in the middle. The button is domed clear plastic with the gold jag head inside so I presume it is factory fitted.
I will have a look for the led and switch at the weekend but,I,dont remember seeing anything.
I also don't have the documentation for the car yet but are planning to pick it up from the old owner at the weekend. I will keep you posted on this.
Thanks for you too far....

Hi Darren
Ok, sounds like a factory system then....... if you get the manuals and they do have a sub section on the alarm/remote locking, it would be great if you could share it. These questions have been coming up a lot recently and no one has a really good answer about how these systems are supposed to work

It may be that when last opened one of the door internal locking "handles" did not go to fully open position. (Fairly common, specially on cars sitting idle for long periods.) Try pushing both to fully open and try again.
(Cannot remember if this applies when you use the key as well.)
