Default Seat Belt components

My 96 XJS 2+2 Convertible needs a seat belt component.

My drivers side seat belt shoulder strap blade will no longer lock in the female portion.

I have pulled it all apart and see that a piece of white plastic (Looks either broken or worn down) that slide up and down depending on blade insertion pushes against the metal locking component and locks into the blade.

I noticed that the seat belt is an old Allied Signal assembly.

Does anybody have any ideas on whether components are available?

I noticed that entire units are on sale for $$$$$$. I temporarily took an off the shelf locking device and connected it in.

I managed to get it all apart without any issues.....Just need that piece of plastic to reassemble and make work like new!!

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

Can you temporarily put the passenger side receiver onto the driver side while you look for a solution so you can at least drive safely?

Keep this in mind if you look for a used replacement part. If they are interchangeable it would be wise to use a passengers side buckle because it would be less used. If the internals are in the same in the rear, you may be able to bust open the rear receiver and replace the worn part in yours. Just put the rear back together, who cares if it works.

Sidescrollin,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did temporarily replace the drivers side receptacle with an off the shelf unit that works. Still want to find the parts of salvage yard replacement.

I will look at the back as a possible solution. The only issue is then the back will not work......Trade off....??

Thanks

Whoever in your family is small enough to fit in the backseat won't be able to in another 20 minutes anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it functioning if I were in that situation.

Sidescrollin,

Can't argue your position but I would really like to rebuild the original if possible. I did find a replacement from a Salvage Yard but they wanted over $250......Crazy!!!!

Thanks

Sidescrollin,

Thanks for your patience. I was not aware of this site. How do you get to it normally when looking for parts. It looks like it is a British site.

Anyway You may be correct. I might be able to take apart and insert into my assembly.

Thanks

Paul

A few sellers on the UK ebay site have the female bit as new old stock. You could replace the complete broken part. Just depends if they have your colo(u)r this week........
