Question Seat Belt- Passenger Side (Retracting)

Hello, I have a 1988 XJ-SC which I just purchased. It is a low milage vehicle, 29,500 miles. It has one problem, the automatic chest seat belt does not move up and down like it should, the drivers side is fine,we now just attach it manually to make it work. Any ideas on what could be the cause of this and is it a easy fix? Thanks to All..

Mine doesn't work either but I have never looked into it. The system includes sensors for the door being ajar, someone sitting in the seat, and the car being in park. I think the issue is generally with the seat sensor. Maybe take out of the seat and see if it does anything, check resistance and voltage ?

its pretty sensitive, so you don't need much weight

I have never put much thought into this because I don't give rides very often and usually when my girlfriend and I both go out for something its in the disco.

I would think it is a pretty simple setup, and in the case of it not working because the sensor is faulty, you may be able to simply straight wire it to fasten even when someone isn't in the seat.

Mine used to continuously "fasten" over and over and it would drain the battery. Probably a bad connection causing it to constantly reset, but I am lazy.

Thanks for your replies,I was just trying to get it all functioning properly and wondered if it may be a easy fix. As for driving by myself, I think that my Wife is already to take the car over and I may have to look for another one!!! After 30 years of Marriage and 8 years of dating whats the difference....

Pull out out all the way and make sure it is not twisted. If it is. You can fold it and let it back in do it retracks straight.
