Welcome to the forum John,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJS forum. Members here with the same model will know if this is a regular issue or if the vehicle could have been fitted with the wrong belts.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Graham

I dont think I can give you any helpful specs to compare because I have a pre-facelift '88 and it has the stupid automatic belts. Probably too different to compare.

That being said I can't imagine then being too small for anyone and I often have a problem with it being too big because the top shoulder portion is so old it is dried and doesn't like to tighten down all the way.

Maybe someone with a facelift car can chime in and tell you their lengths so you can determine whether yours really is functioning properly.

Take off the rear interior panels and check that the belt is coiled up correctly. Never ever believe that a car salesman has fixed anything....! Unless you saw them do it.

John,

Which belt was too short? Drivers side shoulder, lap, or both?

Have you tried the passengers seat?

I'll measure the one in my 96, but I suspect there's an issue here.

I have a facelift, and I'm not a small guy by any means, and it's a Japan model (which might indicate shorter seatbelts), and don't have any problems. You definitely don't have standard. I think malc4d is right--your dealer probably gave it a few half-arsed tugs and said "nah, she'll be right mate."

I don't know if OP will ever return, but if he doesn't, you can post him a letter instead - his location shows his full street address, which is also something he might want to fix....
