Sound system question XJS V12 1990
Hi My XJS V12 has got the pull out radio/tape which may have been great back in the day but now I want to up grade it to a Stereo/Radio/CD.
I want to do the job myself, so can anyone who has done this, please tell me the best way to go about it.

First you need to decide on what is going to in there. Features etc
When you have made your purchase installing it relatively easy as long as you have some basic skills and tools.
You will need
DMM
wire cutters
pliers
Soldering iron - I prefer to solder all connections rather than use those horrid cheap crimp connectors as they always come apart DO NOT just twist the wires together.
Once the old one is removed you need to identify where all of the wires go so they can be connected up to the new head unit.
=== edit === Oh you will need heatshrink tube to cover the wires

You'll need to remove the steel cage, and replace withth eone you get with you new head unit, as each have different locking arrangements.
a flat headed screwdriver should prise the soft metal tongues up and it's a five min job to put the new one in. Just done myself.

Hi Mefoote
Many thanks. I was a bit dubious about taking the old cage out as I wanted the option of going back to retro if I wanted.
So although I haven't done the job yet it sounds a piece of cake.
