Default Speaker/Audio upgrade - replacement?

Has anyone recently does any audio upgrades or Re&Re on their cars? I have the adapter for the stereo-to-modern plug in my box of parts but I don't know where to start?

All 4 speakers have damage from 35 years of use and are almost a total write-off...so doorcard removal is in order are the plugs to secure it still available after I'm done? and the head unit etc? Any other tips? I don't get it though my system was fine with a cassette audio jack for years now their all of a sudden shitting the bed, ohwell.

At minimum you're going to want to replace the head unit and the four speakers in the car.

That is going to be fairly easy....you'll just need some patience.

Any single DIN radio will fit.

I am not as familiar with the pre-facelifts, so I don't know what speakers to recommend, however I do believe that your car should still fit the facelift equipment. If that's the case, I would highly recommend what I have, which is the JBL GTO 620 speakers. They are 6.5" speakers which will fit in your doors, replacing the 5.25" speakers you have there now.

Those same speakers should fit in the back too, but please fact check me on that.

I would also highly recommend a simple class D amplifier. I know, I know, you don't need to rattle windows or thump thump, but it makes a hell of a difference. I installed the Alpine KTA30FW amplifier, which is compact and easy to install.

Lastly, I could not believe what a difference adding a small powered subwoofer made. I can finally hear all the low notes in my car. I couldn't be happier. I bought a Kenwood KSC-SW11.

All of these pieces are easy to install and fit without making any modifications to anything.

You tell us how far you want to go, and we'll help you get there.

I'll look into these. I believe the original owner had a custom audio and after market CD player from the 90s in there as the trunk wiring left over suggests as much.

As Grant would say do it all do it once and do it right. Might aswell refit the whole system if your that far into removing panels etc. I dont need some expensive **** tho the actual OEM audio with a cassette-to-audio jack so my phone plugs into it was quite fine until recently.

I have some of the larger/heavier speakers available from my facelift cars.
They mount to the door as opposed to the door card on pre-facelift.
Very good quality sound from them but surgery will be required to both the doors and the door cards.
