My speedometer/odometer doesnt work in my 1990 XJS. I know on my Mustang there is a speedometer gear in the transmission that gets chewed up sometimes. Is there something similar to look at in this car? What else can it be? Tachometer works.

 

Those cars have problems with connections at the back of the instrument pack, even when they haven't been stored outside with no convertible top.

First thing to check is whether or not the trip computer is ticking off distance traveled, and whether or not the cruise is working. All three speed signals come from a transducer mounted on the differential on a '90 model year XJS. If you have none of these functions, the transducer is the item to test. PM me if you need good used one, they are horribly expensive new.

 

How much for a transducer? Can it be repaired? I am trying to get my car available for sale. Do you have pictures of the transducer and where I could find it?

 

Can't repair them. Talk to JTO about his used one. He's correct, new ones will make you drop your teeth!
