Just tried to ring Doug for you, they appear still closed??????

However,

Phil at H&H have new, including the seal kit, $169.00.

I rang the Jag Daim number the other day and it didn't work. Not sure what is going on there.

Yep, thats him.

That seal kit is for the adaptor that the transducer screws onto. The seals inside it fail, the transducer fills with oil, and goes west, then your wallet opens wide, so very sensible to supply the seal kit with the new transducer.

You need to get your 'Ducks in a Row' Bro.

First Job is to get yourself a Low Profile 3 Ton Trolley Jack.

One of the most useful things that I have ever bought (I use it all the time) if you've got an XJS its simply not an option, its really something that you have to have.

Or you won't be able to get underneath to fix that Speedo Transducer.

You've got a Road Trip to do Bro!

So you want your Car up to snuff before you go.

Mate I know swapping out the transducer is a dry job, but if I also swap out the seal is that a wet or dry job (ie. Red Baptisim)?

Just wondering if I will need a pan ready lol!

Nope.

Maybe a dribble or so as the adaptor is withdrawn.

If you raise the car rear end favoured, and LH side UP, then go for a coldy or 2 or 3, the residual oil will drain away.

Ok so I got under my car yesterday once I finally returned home from and went out and got my 3 Tonne trolley jack and accessories.

Heres what I found:

The wire connecting to the transducer plug was in bad shape. Looks like it had been resting or got pinched on something. I thought yes this is the problem!



I also noticed a bit of oil residue leaking from somewhere but collecting on my exhaust pipe near the trans area and also on the bottom of the trans. It is blackish however my trans fluid is still red. Not sure if it is coming from the engine and flicking back or what. I know I have leaking power steering so maybe it is coming from that as I drive along? I dunno hope it is just that. All my other fluids remain high.



Anyway I cleaned and fitted off the wire with new connectors:


Went for a spin but still the same....bugga. Will be ordering a Speed Transducer today. I had to check the wiring before I ordered the sensor. Just wanted to be sure but now I am ....well sure.

I do have some questions though:

There is one other singular wire going into my transmission about halfway up the pan. What is this used for (the little white one you can hardly see)?


It is the only other wire in that area apart from my speedo transducer wiring. Any clues?

The single wire, if it connects to the side of the trans, is for the kick down solenoid

Red ATF turns black from exposure to heat and dirt.... and co-mingling with dark engine oil that's leaking out of the engine

Cheers for the response guys.

Hope the bloody trans fluid isn't leaking however the level when I checked only a few days ago (at normal running temp) was still full.

Anyway I ordered my transducer just now:



$164 + $12 postage and handling (AUD dollars)

For Oz locals, Doug from Jaig Daim told me his phone system had been down. The 1300 number is up and running but the 9553 number is still down. Should be rectified in the next few days.

That oil could be coming from engine gasket leaks etc. This is pretty normal unless someone has been in and fixed them. Take a careful look along the engine above the exhaust manifold, the "tappet block", a separate casting that sits on the head and holds the camshaft, has a gasketless joint to the head, and this leaks like a sieve, as does the cam cover. Also check the oil pressure senders are dry round their fixing threads, this is another superb anti-rust feature! pic attached of my bodged tappet block leak fix, Daim has a photo up on his iron lady thread showing how it should be done! If this is the problem, then a nice few days work is ahead of you at some point getting stuck into this area! Once again, Daim's thread show how it is done.

So the area you sealed up is the yellowy orange stuff in the picture?

Ha ha ha
his is another superb anti-rust feature
I had to chuckle at that one!

None of my levels seem to change except for my power steering. The pinion rack visibly has droplets on it at times so I am pretty sure that is where it is coming from.

Probably a project I need to get onto later on down the track. I usually have to top it up when I am home.

Is accidentally running a dry pinion rack gonna do much damage apart from having poorly assisted steering?

Yes, and the pump too. Just carefully check if the leak is from the rack, the pipe/rack joints, or even the pipes themselves. If the rack, then IMO a rebuild is the way to go, over in the UK decent rack rebuilders are easily found, and is the best thing to do to fix it, I believe.

Mate they are 235/60's the brand is a generic brand called Dominator.

My rear's have Pirellii P600's. That is what I will get next on the front when they are worn. Bloody pricey though!
