Steering Rack Bushing - 84 XJS V12
Greetings
Took the mistress out the other day….first time in months….first thing I noticed as soon as I got out of the drive way was the steering wheel was not centreing and the steering was about as responsive as a rudder less boat in a storm.
…..anyway the search for replacement steering rack bushings began….this was not a topic I could find a lot of info on other than in “The Book” - Kirby’s words of wisdom.
There are a few different products showing on the net from OEM styles to nolathane and urethane products….i do have experience with these in other non automotive applications so in comparison to the OEM product in this application (steering Rack Bushing) I could guess the differences would be durability and some increased responsiveness / road feel in the steering……?
My question to the members …… is there a particular product out there that you have had good performance out of and would recommend for this particular application…..?
Kind Regards
Darren

The JaguarSport rack bushing are still available; they are dear but are in my view the absolute best and last for ever. You need two (one each side) and one normal one on the double bush side.

Neoprene or poly are good, but not as durable, though much cheaper.

I believe Nolathane is a brand of polyurethane, not a material. That's what I put on my rack, 500 miles ago. It's too early to say much about durability, but the steering response is enormously improved.
NB : This entire subject has been done to death in numerous threads, including one only about a week ago. Try searching.

Be aware that most aftermarket poly bushings are rubbish, the Jag shop I deal with had so many crappy bushings come in while doing my rack (I insisted on Polybush) that they went with OEM Jaguar instead because the others would of simply disintegrated.
If you want the best go with superflex its what they used in the races from what I've been told. Wish I'd known that last year... https://www.superflex.co.uk/proddeta...=SF211-0083KSS
