Steering wheel position change possible for 1985 XJS V12
Can the steering wheel position is able to be changed by taking off wheel and turning it or does it have a flat spot for 1 direction only? I am trying to get a steering rack in there as my one seal is bad and cannot locate the damn seal, so the new rack from AutoZone necessitates the steering wheel to be removed if I am to install the rack. Now I only need to know about the wheel position to see if the shaft is grooved or can I simply change the steering wheel position on my 85 Jag or is there a key/flat spot for one direction only? Dealer does not have the seal I need to fix the rack leak-this sucks...... Thank you, Gary

Thank you Jagboi64-that is what I needed. I only need to install this and then get an interior on this car-she is beautiful and then decide to keep it or sell it. It has a vacuum leak somewhere under the hood, but engine purrs like nobody's business, and finally getting around to fooling with this as I bought a lift for my warehouse.

Hi 2000Viper GTS
In order to center the Steering Rack on an XJS
(1) Remove the Grease Fitting on The Steering Rack
(2) Insert a TORX T20 Screwdriver into where you removed this Grease Fitting while an Assistant is Slowly Turning the Wheel from Side to Side until the TORX T20 Screwdriver drops and locates into a Hole in the Steering Rack and when it does the Steering Rack is Centered
(3) Then you can take the Steering Wheel Off if you want to and move it into your desired position but do this on a dead flat Camber Free road, or you might have to do it again
(4) Once you know that the Steering Rack has been Centered (using the screwdriver in the Grease Fitting Hole) then any further adjustment is done on the Track Rods
(5) Get her so She is driving Safe and then take her into a 'Shop' to have the Track Rods properly aligned, although I think 'Greg' has a method with a piece of String, so maybe he'll jump in

All good, that is all I needed. I have a lift at my shop and into cars, but this rack issue has been a PITA for me as it POURS fluid all over :-) I will line her up as best I can and hopefully be okay, if not an alignment rack visit will be in order later once she hits the road.
