Default stereo issues with 95 xjs convertible

OK so the stereo was working great until I mentioned it to someone, and now only the left channel works but through all speakers (albeit with reduced power and clarity). Anyone have this issue themselves, and is it resolvable without full replacement?

Something may have simply happened to the cable, but what an odd thing to happen. I suspect you think the radio has failed you because you weren't doing anything that might have affected the wiring from the radio to the speakers...

I don't think you're wrong.

I believe there is someone that has had their radio repaired, but that would cost you about the same as a new one. Decisions, decisions.

I did recently have the battery replaced, and I wondered if there was a connection near the battery location that may relate to the stereo and is now shorted. Other than that, the car has been in the family since 2000, and this is the first real electrical issue other than short battery life. I suppose I should count myself blessed by Lucas.

Eh. Ford kicked much of Lucas’ stuff to the curb by the time your 95 rolled off the line.

I think you might be due for a new stereo. Might as well get new speakers too….they will
disintegrate upon touch. Not terrible for almost 30 years?

Some years back, I had a similar problem. I tore apart the rear quarter panel and found that the right rear speaker was simply disconnected. Maybe try that first.
