Default Help with Stereo Replacement - 1993 XJS convertible

Hello, I am trying to upgrade my stereo as the one in the car barely works and we need hands free calling here in Georgia so we don't get a ticket. I bought an alpine and have it wired and ready to install. The problem is that the round power connector for the original stereo in the Jaguar is too big for my new unit. Can anyone point me in the direction of a place to get a replacement adapter for this or a coupler that might connect the car power to the new stereo. I will attach a couple of pictures for reference. I am fairly new at stereo work so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

This is the plug on the back of the new stereo unit.

This is the plug in the car that is too big for the new unit.

Looks like a John Holmes/Christina Yamaguchi situation. You’re gonna need an adaptor.

You are exactly right. I figured it out after I posted. Ive got a replacement connector on the way and will swap it out when it arrives. Thanks!

That's not the power connector, that's the prewire for the 6 disc CD changer that would be trunk mounted. If you don't have a CD changer, leave it disconnected.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. I do have a cd changer in the trunk, so I may try to switch out that connector anyway and see if the changer will work with my new stereo. Appreciate you helping to educate me.

I don't have a 93 wiring diagram, but I think 92 is the same. Everything is in the white plug, and the purple wire is power. Diagram attached.

Presumably you’re just going to abandon the CD changer and use an MP3 player (aka your cell
phone)?

The speakers are more important to replace than the head unit. If anyone is keeping their head unit you can swap out the CD changer for a Bluetooth input https://www.discountcarstereo.com/ja...ategory_id=431
