Default Suggest Distributor cap

Can anyone suggest the best option for replacing my cap and rotor on 91 XJS. Anything better than the Marelli cap?

I presume you asking about what brand to buy?

If so, genuine Marelli was the preferred choice for years and years....but they are now out of production.

As far as I can tell all the other present day offerings are the very same cap. Only the box/label/brand name changes.

Cheers

Thank you.. I did happen to catch something on either this or another forum about a non-Marelli cap that seemed to provide better insulation (helps limit the possibility of a meltdown).. but I can't find the post.

The best way to prevent a meltdown is keep the ignition system in top shape, particularly correct spark plug gap and good wires....and replacing the cap and rotor before a meltdown occurs. And...importantly....stop driving at the slightest hint of trouble.

After that, a dab of silicone inside the rotor. And/or trimming the rotor ....the details of which escape my memory at this exact moment. Old age !

Others will chime in.

Cheers
