Default A/T Failure warning light

I have an intermittent A/T Failure light (automatic transmission). Some starts it’s on and stays on, other starts, I never see it. The car appears to run fine regardless, but does anyone know what the problem might be here. The funny thing about this, is the manual doesn’t even acknowledge that this model has this warning light. Any help would be much appreciated.

The ROM doesn’t seem to have anything about what causes this fault in the transmission section, but it does show up in the gauge section, mostly so you can change the lightbulb. Have you checked the fluid level?

is this a 4.0 or V12? I’ve had that light on a high miles 4.0. Only came on after abrupt changes in speed, usually slowing down. It was related to the weird idle level, which was caused by an ancient notchy TPS. The transmission was looking for a certain RPM. Restarting the ca always cleared it. New TPS stopped it entirely.

Fluid level looks good, it’s a 4.0 6 cyl. I had read somewhere that water can get trapped in an electrical connector in the right rear wheel well, but I can see anything there that would have become wet. I have previously gotten a FF17 fault, which as I understand is related to a TPS fault.
