I have an opportunity to trade my well sorted 78 MG Midget for a 1986 xj12. The Jag has 139000 Kms on it.
The owner states -
Vehicle inspection done. New sparks plugs in, distributor ., oil change and tune up. Will need water pump at some time but not urgent. Newer tires. Is one of only 5000 built. It has the unique pop off top.
What should I be wary of when previewing this car?

You're looking at an "XJS". The XJ12 was a four door sedan. Go to the XJS section. There's a Buyers Guide in one of the sticky threads at the top of the page. It'll give the basics and then you can ask other questions as needed

One thing to be well aware of is that you will quadruple your fuel bills.
