Question TIRES and Shock

A friend had offered me a set of Continental almost new tires. They are 205/55/2R16 high speed. My current tires on my 95 XJS 2+2 are Bridgestone 225/60R/16 H737. Question can I use this slightly smaller tire on my XJS?
I also just noticed my car sits lower on the passenger side front. Normally I would suspect bad shock absorber and put a pair on. In searching parts on SNG Barrett they do not list front shocks, what am I missing? First time owner.
Thanks

Jaguar refers to the shock absorbers as dampers. There is a difference in part numbers between V12 and I6 cars. Not sure about the tires.

I would guess no on the tires. The tires you have been offered are narrower than what you have now. I can see how a wider tire fits the rim, but a narrower tire might not get the bite on the rim that is needed to maintain air pressure.

You'd also have to watch the full size spare. You're mixing a 55 and a 60 tire. The 60 is slightly taller than the 55. I think you'd be okay in a pinch, but I wouldn't drive any further than absolutely necessary,

That's a significant change in tire size. I would not do it.

Captain Bob,

DEFINITELY don't put those smaller tyres on your 95 XJS!

As regards the front damper, the part number for a late facelift 4 litre XJS without sportspack is MHD2140AA. If you want to buy from Barratt's, see here:

Front Suspension Damper / Shock Absorber (MHD2140AA) (sngbarratt.com)

Cheers

Paul
